Dance Art Foundation presents

by Joe Moran
UK National Tour
October - November 2014

Assembly | Programme and venue information | Works | Associated events

Bold and refreshing, choreographer Joe Moran’s work has gained recognition for its intelligence, complexity and disruption of convention. Assembly is Moran's first national tour and most ambitious project to date, taking a collection of performance to theatres, galleries and hospitals across the UK.

Different combinations of the five works in the Assembly collection are offered in each context. Click here for full venue and programme details.

Moran’s stark and compelling self-performed solo Decommission, all-male ensemble Arrangement and striking trio Obverse (commissioned for The Place Prize for dance sponsored by Bloomberg) are reimagined for each new setting. At Nottingham Contemporary, nine local performers join Assembly’s exceptional company of dancers to perform the durational installation The Body and at both the gallery events a second performance installation Singular is performed.

Highlights include performances at David Roberts Art Foundation coinciding with Frieze Art Fair, alongside events by artist Sarah Lucas and DJ planningtorock, a free weekend at Nottingham Contemporary in collaboration with Dance4 and the final tour date back in London at Greenwich Dance’s remarkable Borough Hall.

'Assembly brings together the full range of Dance Art Foundation’s work – taking new ideas in dance out into the world in fresh and imaginative ways; in particular, it aligns our touring more closely to our national strategic dance-in-health programme, Breathing Space and our popular Critical Dialogues project. For us, Assembly offers an exciting new model for dance touring in the UK, opening up new possibilities for dance and the context in which it can be encountered” - Joe Moran, Artistic Director

Assembly is produced by Dance Art Foundation. It is generously funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and The Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation, with support from The Place, South East Dance, Movingeast, Dance4, Artsadmin and Merseyside Dance Initiative. Obverse was commissioned for The Place Prize for dance sponsored by Bloomberg.

Assembly is performed by: Andrew Hardwidge, Samuel Kennedy, Joe Moran, Erik Nevin, Christopher Owen, Hilary Stainsby, Alex Standard and Yiannis Tsigkris. Assembly premiered at The Place in May 2014, ahead of national touring, Oct – Nov 2014.
